Celendin - Balsas

The road from Cajamarca to Chachapoyas descends into the deep valley of the Marañon, the upper Amazon river, and climbs back to an altitude of almost 4000m.

The first town on the route is Celendin, where a large wooden bullfighting ring is built each year for the fiesta.

Balsas, in the Marañon valley, has tropical climate and produces delicious fruits.

Leymebamba is worth visiting for its museum and the trail to „Laguna de los Condores“.
