Immigrants from Austria and Germany settled in the valley of Pozuzo since the year 1857. The valley is located in the mountain jungle on the eastern slope of the Andes in central Peru.
The difficult road from Oxapampa to Pozuzo crosses the Yanachaga-Chemillen national park. In the rainy season, the town is often unreachable because of landslides and swollen rivers.
The Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruvianus), the national bird of Peru, can be observed in a protected forest in the outskirts of the town.
